At Kompass, we have worked extensively with students who receive government funding for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other learning disabilities. Our tutors are trained in evidence-based approaches including the DIR/Floortime Model, ABA-informed strategies, and positive behavioural supports.
We understand the documentation requirements, can provide session reports and learning summaries, and are familiar with the process of aligning tutoring services to eligible funding categories.
The BC Autism Funding Program provides funding to families of children and youth with ASD to purchase eligible autism supports, including tutoring and educational services. Here's a step-by-step breakdown of how to access it:
Your child must have a formal ASD diagnosis from a registered psychologist, psychiatrist, or pediatrician in BC. This diagnosis is required to apply.
Apply through the BC Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) Autism Funding Branch. You'll submit the diagnosis documents and complete a registration form. Applications can be made online at gov.bc.ca/autismfunding ↗ or by calling 1-866-236-2448.
Children under 6: up to $22,000/year. Children 6–18: up to $6,000/year. These funds can be used directly with approved service providers — including Kompass Academy for eligible educational supports.
Once registered, you can choose to work with Kompass Academy and use your funding toward sessions. We provide invoices in the required format and progress reports to support your annual renewal.
Funding is allocated in a 12-month period. Keep receipts and invoices — you submit these to MCFD for reimbursement or direct payment. Funding must be renewed each year. Kompass can help you prepare the learning progress summary needed for renewal.

Community Living BC provides individualized funding for eligible adults (19+) with developmental disabilities. Can cover tutoring and life skills educational support. Eligibility is determined by CLBC intake.
BC school districts provide designations (e.g., Category D, F, H) for students with special needs, which can unlock additional school-based supports. While this doesn't pay Kompass directly, it establishes documentation useful for other funding.
The federal Disability Tax Credit (DTC) and Child Disability Benefit (CDB) can provide families with additional financial support. Tutoring costs may be eligible as medical/disability-related expenses. Consult a tax professional for your situation.
In many cases, yes. Eligible tutoring and educational support services can be delivered virtually under the program. We recommend confirming with MCFD what service categories your funding covers, and we're happy to provide appropriate documentation.

Yes. Students with ADHD, dyslexia, processing disorders, or other learning differences may qualify under different categories (e.g., CLBC, school district designations, or federal tax credits). We can discuss what's appropriate in your situation during your free consultation.
